India's healthcare system for foreigners

India is a country of contrasting development. Explosive in some regions, it remains virtually non-existent in others. The same applies to India’s healthcare system, which, while it does exist, covers only a tiny fraction of the country’s huge population.

For the few insured, the security scheme covers 4 risks:

  • Old age and disability
  • Sickness and maternity
  • unemployment
  • work-related accidents and illnesses

The country’s social security system depends 100% on the Indian Ministry of Labor. The latter is not universal and offers limited health coverage.

In addition to the social security system, a more extensive public pension scheme was set up by the government several years ago: The National Pension System.

Every year, India works to improve its health insurance system and extend it to the entire population.

Do I need health insurance in India?

The answer is yes. India is a magnificent country with a multitude of flavors, but it’s one of those countries where you absolutely must take out insurance before traveling or expatriating. Some care facilities are highly qualified but require very high medical fees. As an expatriate in India dependent on the Indian social security system, you will not be cared for in the best health establishments, but in public hospitals. In order to benefit from the best care, we recommend that you take out health insurance. This usually includes repatriation and third-party liability insurance. Things that are not always included in the country’s social security system. India is one of those countries where health coverage is no joke.

Which health insurance for India?

Take out GoldExpat insurance for your expatriation to India To support you in your expatriation to India, Mondassur offers you GoldExpat, the ideal insurance for expatriates in India. GoldExpat is :
  • 100% reimbursement of actual hospital costs: Hospitalization must be reimbursed at 100% of actual costs incurred. This is a real necessity for an Indian insurance policy. The cost of hospitalization in India is high, so it’s essential that you have 100% coverage in the event of an accident.
  • Third-party liability coverage: Being covered is one thing, but being covered for damage to others is quite another! Imagine you’re walking through the streets of Delhi and an incident occurs in which you’re at fault. Naturally, we’ll cover the cost of your care. But if you don’t have third-party liability cover in your Indian insurance, then the costs you have to pay to this third party will not be covered by your insurance, and you run the risk of going heavily into debt!
  • Repatriation cover: There are many cases or medical situations where repatriation to the country of origin is required or strongly recommended. Where the Indian social security system will never cover repatriation, private health insurance may enable you to return home for treatment.
In all these situations and many more, GoldExpat’s India insurance covers you and guarantees immediate care at a very reasonable price.
