Obtain an international insurance certificate

How to obtain your travel insurance certificate ? You may be asked to provide proof of insurance to obtain your visa or to enter the country. A certificate of insurance covering Covid-19 care is now required in many countries, including Costa Rica, Jordan and Ukraine (see list below).


Why an international insurance certificate?

Depending on the purpose of your stay abroad, you may need a foreign insurance certificate. If you’re studying abroad, your school or university may ask you for this document. You will need a certificate of insurance for certain countries. If you live in certain countries, an immigration certificate is required.

What does a foreign health insurance certificate contain?

The health insurance certificate is a document confirming that you are covered by an international health insurance policy. This document is proof of insurance during the period of validity of the contract. This is also called the insurance certificate and must include at least the following information:

  • last name, first name, date of birth
  • type of insurance,
  • dates of stay abroad

Other information may be requested depending on the purpose of your stay. Mondassur will provide you with the appropriate certificates for your stay abroad. You may be asked to name the various benefits covered by your policy, in particular coverage of medical expenses abroad and repatriation assistance – essential benefits when abroad. This applies to Covid-19 coverage.

Covid-19 insurance: Safe travel insurance

Insurance may be mandatory for certain countries, which require proof of coverage and/or vaccination against Covid-19.
Before the health crisis, only 6 countries required tourists to provide proof of health insurance (China, Russia, Cuba, Algeria, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia). Since then, this number has risen dramatically as Covid-19 has evolved worldwide.

Given the rapid evolution of the health crisis, this list is subject to change. Contact us to be sure!

  • Countries where Covid-19 health insurance is no longer required: Argentina, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Mauritius, Indonesia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Philippines, French Polynesia, Singapore, Thailand, Togo.

Although insurance is no longer compulsory, it is highly recommended.

  • Countries where Covid-19 travel insurance is compulsory: Benin, Djibouti, Fiji, Israel (except for temporary residents with A/1, A/5 or B/1 visas if insured by employer), Jordan, Nepal, Oman, Seychelles.
  • Laos: Insurance with a minimum guarantee of $50,000
  • Vietnam: Insurance with a minimum guarantee of $10,000

Which visas require an insurance certificate?

Tourist visas for China, Russia, Mongolia, Cuba…etc.

To stay in certain countries or obtain a visa (e.g. Russia or China), you need to have travel insurance. When you apply for your visa, you will be asked to provide proof of health insurance. Student visa or internship

If you are a student, your school may require proof of worldwide health insurance. If you’re doing an internship in the USA, you’ll need an attestation for your J-1 visa. If you wish to study in the United States, you must take out insurance for the United States, and your American university will require it. Schengen Visa

If you want to stay in Europe, you’ll need a Schengen visa, depending on your nationality. To obtain this short-stay visa, you’ll need to take out Schengen visa insurance. This insurance is required to obtain a certificate of insurance to start your visa application. Mondassur offers Schengen Visa insurance for less than 90 days: Schengen Europe Access. This insurance complies with European consulate requirements for Schengen visas.
Long-stay visa : If you are staying longer in Europe and France, a certificate of insurance for a Long Stay visa will also be required for your stay. Mondassur offersEurope Access insurance and will provide you with a certificate immediately after you take out visa insurance online.

PVT Visa

As part of a PVT program, you must take out PVT insurance in order to receive a certificate of insurance and obtain your PVT visa.

Retired Visa

In some countries, such as Thailand for the O-A visa for those aged 50 and over, it is compulsory to produce a certificate of insurance covering the guarantees required by the Thai government when renewing your visa. Why is it important to have proof of insurance abroad?

In order to benefit from healthcare services when traveling abroad.
When you are hospitalized in a foreign country, the medical staff will ask you for proof of international insurance so that they can provide you with the care you need. The attestation document will enable the establishment to contact your insurance company to guarantee financial coverage of your care. Without this, you won’t be treated unless you can give your credit card as a guarantee…
That’s why, when you travel to a country, the embassies of some countries require you to have travel insurance to make sure your health expenses can be covered.

How to obtain your international health insurance certificate?
