Some information on the changes to make during your trip to the UK.

Price increase

Since the referendum in 2016 and the willingness of the British people to leave the European Union, the pound has fallen about 15% against the euro. In this sense, prices have risen relatively, which has had an impact on travel prices in the UK.

The United Kingdom is one of the most visited countries in Europe and the British are also traveling a lot in Europe. An increase in prices could reduce the number of stays and thus have a negative impact on the tourism economy in the European Union.

As well, the airlines are planning an increase in the price of airline tickets. The main reason is that the exit of the European Union entails a suppression of the agreements and the European treaties, and in particular the treaty "Open Skies". Since 2004, all airlines based in a Member State can move freely on European territory. Without any agreement before March 29, 2019, it could have a temporary interruption of flights between the European Union and the United Kingdom.

New obligations to return to British territory

With the free movement of all citizens on European territory, all you need is an identity card to travel. However, the BREXIT will entail new obligations to return to the territory. In this sense, the British will have to bring a visa and a passport to visit the European Union, and it will be necessary to obtain these same documents to come to the United Kingdom.

Depending on the negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union, an agreement may be reached to determine the conditions of entry into the territory.

The disappearance of the health system for European travelers

The status of European citizen also gives the right to an European medical insurance card which allows you to be medically covered while traveling with the EU. With a simple request to the relevant organizations, you will have free access to hospitals in case of emergency (for stays of less than 90 days). However, with the exit of the European Union, this right will not be valid any more on the British territory and it will be necessary to take out a travel insurance in the United Kingdom to ensure you are properly covered for your medical expenses which are quite high in Great Britain. For UK citizens, this also means that they will need a travel health insurance for their vacation in Europe and will not benefit anymore from the European medical insurance.
