You are young and you want to work in the U.S. or somewhere else? Then the Volontariat en enterprise or VIE is for you!
It is very difficult for a young graduate to start his professional career abroad. Thanks to the Volontariat International en Entreprise- an international corporate assignment contract, it now becomes open to all.
Created in 2001, the VIE enables young people between 18 to 28 years, whatever the level of studies, to complete missions abroad for French companies for 6 to 24 months. They are already over 15 000 who have tried the experience, among who 6000 are currently working overseas. Travel expenses, monthly living allowance (between 1100 and 2900 €) and social protection of VIE are taken in charge by the company.
The United States is the first country to welcome VIE where 655 young people are currently on mission. The chances of being hired by the company after a mission are very high : 70% of young people who completed a mission were then hired by the company, among who half of them abroad. The first 3 sectors which employs VIE are banks, automobile industry and oil & gas industry. Companies are increasingly likely to use the VIE because it is profitable. The VIE jobs are exempt from payroll taxes, the State manages the administrative part...
Benefits for the young graduate, benefits for the company, the VIE is a great opportunity for all. They are also two other forms: VIA (Volontariat International en Administration- an international assignment contract in administration) and VIS (Volontariat International Scientifique- an international scientific assignment contract). There are no more excuses not to go abroad!

There are many student exchanges between France and Canada.
Each year, 6,400 French students sit on the benches of Quebec universities, while a thousand Quebecois visit French universities. According to the Consulate of France in Quebec, this represents three French students out of 1000 against four students from Quebec out of1000 in proportion to the student population. All this is within the framework of an agreement on tuition fees, signed in 1978, which allows students from both countries to pay the same prices as those of the host country.
For a French student, one year of university in Quebec therefore costs about 1100 euros. Sure, it is more than in FranceU.S. or other Canadian provinces. So it becomes financially attractive for those who want to study English. For the French, Quebec is now the cheaper place in the world to study in English. but incommensurate with the

While students are returning to the University, the results obtained by the French at the TOEFL, the success pass to study in an Anglo-Saxon university, are not encouraging. Based on 2008 results, French people ranked 69 out of109, so at the same level as the Bulgarians ... When you know that France is among the top 10 global economic powers and wants to play a leading role in Europe and the world, how is it possible that the French are getting such poor results?
French people have already had a title of the worst tourists in the world. Would French people think that the best way to defend their nice language is to ignore English and act like in the eighteenth century when Voltaire spoke his native language at the court of Sweden or Poland?
Another hypothesis: the archaism of the French educational system. Unlike the Scandinavian countries, where children are taught English from an early age, French children begin to learn the language of Shakespeare too late at school.
The quality of education is also pointed out. According to the American author Laurel Zuckerman, the problem comes from the competitive examination to get a job of English teacher in the Education Nationale: the aggregation of English. It is not necessary to speak very good English to pass. More than half of the tests are entirely in French and for English tests, it mostly consists in translating English texts into French. So are French students bad or are do they simply have bad teachers?
Anyway, it's time to handle it ... Let's speak English! |
